Case Study – Increasing Uptake of Cancer Screening

As part of the wider cancer strategy for the area, I worked with the provider responsible for delivering National Cancer Screening programmes. Despite the importance of the programme, the service was not reaching the numbers of people expected, meaning too many individuals were missing vital opportunities for early detection and treatment.

To address this, I led a collaborative approach that brought together service leads, partner organisations, local MPs, businesses, and members of the public. By engaging with a broad range of stakeholders, I was able to understand the barriers preventing people from attending and together agree on a shared strategy to increase uptake.

This included raising awareness, improving accessibility, and tailoring communications to the local population. Through this engagement, we not only created stronger community ownership of the programme but also built momentum behind the importance of cancer screening as part of everyone’s health journey.

The result was a measurable increase in the number of people accessing cancer screening locally, directly contributing to the area’s wider cancer strategy and improving early detection rates.
