I led a collaborative initiative that significantly improved the CQC rating of Staffordshire’s largest care home, which had previously been rated as “Requires Improvement.” A key issue was staff feeling clinically unsupported, leading to difficulties in recruitment and retention. In response, I partnered with colleagues from the local council and engaged a Consultant Geriatrician and a local GP to create a sustainable, clinically supported model. We introduced video consultation technology, enabling weekly multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings and on-demand clinical input. This reduced the need for staff to travel to hospitals or clinics for advice, while enhancing on-site decision-making and confidence. The service provided consistent, specialist-led support and contributed directly to improved care quality. As a result, the home achieved a higher CQC rating and saw better staff morale and retention. The innovative approach was recognised nationally, earning a nomination at the 2015 National GP Awards.
